Peer Assessment Of My School Magazine Front Cover

By Ellie Houghton

Q- Would you say there is a house-style to this front cover?
A- Yes, I can clearly understand that the shade of red which is chosen continues to appear throughout this front cover as it is used on the masthead, banners, and the puff.

Q- What feature do you find the most eye-catching?

A- The puff because the text is in capital letters and is on a bright red background catching the reader’s attention.

Q- Does the masthead stand out enough on the main image?
A- I think it does due to the fact it is placed on top of the image suggesting its importance, however it could be a bigger size to ensure it is the first thing to reader would see when purchasing this magazine.

Q- What do you make of the images I have chosen to use?
A- I think the main image is good because it is slightly off centre making space for more cover lines on your magazine. I also like how it is in black and white; I think it makes the house-style look more effective as it stands out more. However I feel as though the secondary images could be a better quality as they are a little blurry and unclear to see, especially when you first look at the magazine. Although they link with the cover lines beneath them which makes the reader more intrigued to find out more about what’s inside the magazine.

Q- Are there any improvements you could make to this magazine if you were to do it yourself?
A- Yes, I feel as though the cover lines and secondary images don’t stand out as much as the puff, this would be because the puff has a bright red background. Therefore I think if I were to do it myself I would have the same shade of red as borders around the cover lines and secondary images to make them look more appealing to the reader at a first glance.

Q- If I was to make those changes, would you then buy the magazine?

A- Yes I would because it supplies all the information needed to be presented on a school magazine and looks effective as a front cover for a school magazine.
