Peer Assessment

Peer Assessment for my music magazine Q- Do you think my magazine incorporates the theme of jazz? A- Personally I think that this magazine does because as soon as I look at the front cover I can see by the chosen colour scheme and instruments in the images that this is a jazz magazine. The colours are dark and the images are of instruments such as trumpets and pianos. Q- Would you say there is a house-style to this magazine? A- Yes, I would because all the pages contain a grey border, the logo ‘ CJ’  is on each of the pages and the text is the same. This to me shows that there is a house-style to the magazine as it proves that whatever page in the magazine you turn to, you will be able to tell what magazine it’s from. Q - What feature on the front cover do you find the most eye-catching? A- I find the masthead the most eye-catching because it is so contrasting from the black background on the main image. The colour white really stands out from the remains of the fro...

Original photography

Original photography I decided not to use this photo because I found his facial expression too serious and didn't fit the style that I wanted my magazine to have.  I liked this shot because it focuses specifically on the instrument itself, however because my article was all about the artist, it didn't feel right to not include his face within the double page spread. This was the photo I eventually decided to use for my double page spread, it needed some editing, especially within the background but it shows the artist looking much more relaxed with his instrument which is the look I was hoping for.  I used this image on my contents page because it is not too eye-catching that it takes the main focus away from the text but relates well to the content of the text and the magazine itself. This is the image I used on my front cover of my magazine, I chose this image because of the angle of the trumpet, it makes the reader feel as though they're being drawn into t...

Further target audience research

Further target audience research Transcript for focus group: E- how do you distinguish the differences between different genres of magazines? K- well firstly I would look at the main image because that gives away what style of music the company would like to show to their audience and I feel like by the colours, if it was a pop magazine it would have bright colours such as pink and blue. Whereas if it was a jazz magazine, it would have more darker colours like a smoky colour effect. Overall, I feel like the main image would give the genre away to the audience. H- you are able to like choose and decide what genre it fits, so the techniques that are used, so like if it’s intense by the person looking directly out to there, the reader would look straight t them, then it just seems more intense so like a rock or hard core genre. H- what features would you expect to see on the front of a magazine? E- um I feel like you would expect a masthead for sure because that’s like one o...

Analysis of target audience research

Analysis of target audience research For my target audience research, I created a questionnaire for people to fill out, asking questions based on jazz music. This is useful to me because it allows me to edit my music magazine to fit my target audience to ensure people would buy my magazine. The people I asked my questionnaire to, were picked at random, meaning that they may not have all been fans of jazz music. However this is still useful because it is interesting to find out what techniques I could use and features I could include in my magazine to entice non-jazz fans to purchase my magazine. What I found out from my questionnaire is that the majority of people believe that darker colours should be used on a jazz magazine, for instance black, purple and gold were reoccurring colours that people recommended to use. Another element my target audience would like to see in my jazz magazine is the opportunity to get free gifts such as CD’s.
