Aims for my music magazine: For my music magazine I am hoping to have a Jazz theme throughout and will contain a front cover, contents page and a double page spread.  I have decided to do base my magazine on jazz music because I think it will look sophisticated and urban. Hopefully I will be able to take some photos of some brass instruments such as a saxophone, trumpet, microphone and a drum kit .  When editing my photos I will try to include a smokey effect to enhance my theme of jazz, I believe this will ensure my magazine has a house style and will make it look unique. This theme will attract readers of any age with a certain level of sophistication.  I am wanting my final draft of my music magazine to include different features that I will have learnt since producing my school magazine front cover.

Music Magazine Mood Board Below is my mood board for my music magazine. The theme I have chosen to do is jazz music, therefore I have decided to mainly include black and white images to portray the element of jazz throughout my magazine. I also liked the idea of using a smoke effect in my images so I researched these and included them on my mood board. One of the main instruments I am thinking of using for my front cover is the Saxophone because it tends to be one of the first things people think of when talking about jazz music.

Evaluation Of My School Magazine Front Cover In my evaluation I will be talking about the successes and further improvements on my school magazine cover which I will link to my peer assessment. I will also discuss the improvements I made to my front cover and why it is that they are so important. Firstly, my school magazine cover relates to my chosen skeleton diagram as I decided to stick to the template I had created. This, for me, was easier because it allowed me to begin my front cover with a basic design showing what I needed to go where. For example, I knew that I wanted my main image to be slightly off-centre and that I wanted some anchorage text over-lapping a secondary image, so I placed boxes in the places I wanted them so it was easier for me to work out how much space I had. Continuing to talk about space, I ensured my front cover wasn’t too crowded, so I overlapped text and put my cover lines at an angle. This also implies to the reader that I want my main image to be ...

Final draft of my school magazine This is my final school magazine front cover, I feel as though it makes my magazine look much more eye-catching due to the changes I made such as borders around the cover lines and secondary images.
Peer Assessment Of My School Magazine Front Cover By Ellie Houghton Q- Would you say there is a house-style to this front cover? A- Yes, I can clearly understand that the shade of red which is chosen continues to appear throughout this front cover as it is used on the masthead, banners, and the puff. Q- What feature do you find the most eye-catching? A- The puff because the text is in capital letters and is on a bright red background catching the reader’s attention. Q- Does the masthead stand out enough on the main image?  A- I think it does due to the fact it is placed on top of the image suggesting its importance, however it could be a bigger size to ensure it is the first thing to reader would see when purchasing this magazine. Q- What do you make of the images I have chosen to use? A- I think the main image is good because it is slightly off centre making space for more cover lines on your magazine. I also like how it is in black and white; I th...

First draft of my school magazine Below is my first draft on my school magazine front cover, I felt as though it didn't look finished therefore underneath this picture I have created my final draft of my front cover with the use of borders, making the cover lines and images stand out to the reader more.

Photo Selection Below are some of the images that I didn't use on my school magazine, the reason I didn't use them is because of the lighting (seen in the first two pictures) and the framing wasn't how I hoped it to be. For example the picture of the two boys walking would take up the majority of the front cover and with the cover lines on top, their faces would be covered.

Screenshots of my model organisation for my school magazine Below are the screenshots of the conversations I had over email with my models for my school magazine. This was useful as it shows when and where I would like them to model for me.

These are my first skeleton diagram in preparation for my own magazine front cover. My favourite design is the top one because it includes a lot of important information, which would be required of my magazine considering I am aiming it towards a new sixth form student. It would include information about GCSE re-takes, the school's new facilities, upcoming events and my USP.

Below is my format research for my school magazine, I have analysed features such as the masthead, the main image, cover lines, buzzwords, banners and sub-images. Doing this helps me to develop ideas for my own magazine front cover, for example I like the way the main image cover the masthead showing its importance in the magazine. In addition to this, it has helped me learn about new terminology I will be using when doing my skeleton diagrams for my own magazine whereas in my summer homework, I wasn't aware of the sort of terminology I would be needing to use.
